There is something special happening this weekend at the Virtual Kennel Club. Join us for the VKC Christmas Formal on Friday, 16 December 2011 at 3 o’clock in the SL afternoon at the Courtyard of Turing Isle for fun, live music, and the appearance of a special guest!
Its been a steady stream of people coming by all day to take part in the VKC Thanksgiving Fun Hunt. Some pronounced the hunt “easy” while others said that it is “hard,” but all agreed that the hunt is fun! According to those in the VKC who have organized this, so far about half the hunters who have taken part have completed the hunt. These lucky people will be entered into a drawing to randomly select one winner of the grand prize — a VKC Dog!
There’s still time to join the hunt. It’s guaranteed to be a good time. The hunt takes place at the Canis Beach Agility Area.
The winner of the grand prize will be announced on Saturday, 26 November, at the VKC Thanksgiving Party at Canis Beach.
Update 27 November 2011: Scorpio Zane was the winner of the grand prize. For her prize, she was able to choose any VKC Siberian Husky, a VKC Golden Retriever, any VKC Wolf, or the upcoming VKC Dog. Forty-six other hunters found prizes, too!
Are you looking for something to do over the weekend? The VKC Dogs and the members of the VKC Park Services have cooked up some fun events in celebration of Thanksgiving in the U.S.
There will be two events!
The celebration kicks off with a easy and fun hunt. The VKC Dogs will hide a dozen turkeys all around Canis Beach. Find the hidden turkeys and you will win a small prize. Also, your name will be entered in a drawing for a VKC Dog of your very own! The hunt begins at noon on Friday, 25 November and continues for 24 hours.
The party begins when the hunt ends at noon on Saturday the 26th. Grab your favorite VKC Dog and your friends and come on down to the party. DJ Irish Evermore will be spinning the tunes for us. Dance, feast, visit, chill, play, and have a good time for a couple of hours.

Check it out! The Rescue Park at Canis Beach is now featured in the Second Life Destination Guide!
The Rescue Park was created as a tool to educate, promote, fundraise and create general awareness of animal shelters and rescues around the world. A completely free place for animal rescuers to gather, educate and promote animal rescue and animal welfare.
We look forward to your visit!
Find a costume and come and help us celebrate! Halloween.
LilWitch has been decorating up a storm and has entirely rearranged the Agility Area to make way for a fantastic, spooky good time.
We have a fantastic singer coming — Colt Arun. Those who follow Colt know that he never disappoints. Those who have never heard Colt before are in for a big treat.
Come dance with your friends and your VKC Dogs. It will be a howling good time!
The festivities begin at 3 in the SL afternoon on Saturday October 29th in the Canis Beach Agility Area.
We are also celebrating the release of the VKC Wolf for Halloween so come and join us
LilWitch Allen (pictured above) and Erie Runningbear (no photograph), both VKC Proven Trainers, have teamed up to offer training classes for those who have VKC Dogs and want to know more about them. The weekly training classes will be geared to the needs of the participants.
The first class, set for this Thursday, October 27 at 11 in the morning, SL time, will take place at Canis Beach Dog Park. This first of many classes will focus on the basics of enjoying and training a VKC Dog. There will be plenty of time set aside to answer questions from the participants.
Bring one of your VKC Dogs and all your questions with you to class. Lil promises that the classes will be as much fun as they will be a good learning experience.
Canis Beach Dog Park is getting ready for Halloween! Look around and you will begin to see some of the signs that something’s up. What’s happening in the agility area? What’s LilWitch planned? What’s that shadowy thing we see out of the corner of our eye, just barely noticed and fleeting?
The VKC is up to something, too. Have you seen the footprints in the parks? What’s that sign in the mists all about? I cannot say, except to tell you that something both unexpected and hoped-for is on its way. Expect more news in the Virtual Kennel Club group on Saturday, 22 October 2011. Here’s a hint!

Enrico Genosse (center in long coat) is surrounded by just some of the many residents — including a horse avatar and a bunneh avatar—and their VKC animals that showed up for a group photograph.
It was a bit like Woodstock — a gathering of diverse residents to celebrate peace, love, and openness. Music at Woodstock may have been better, but the camaraderie at this impromptu gathering was superb!
A surprise announcement went went out in the VKC Group and for over an hour people teleported in and rezzed dogs. One, two, three dogs… four, five, six dogs … up to as many as the 22 dogs our Aztek brought with her. Erie was there, too, with a selection of his dogs.
I don’t know if anybody ever got a true count of dogs and residents, but one count had the event pegged at about 25 residents and over 130 VKC dogs, penguins, hyenas, and polar bears. And once there, people did not merely grab a couple of snapshots and teleport away; they stayed and visited with one another. Some called their friends to join in the chaos and fun. One fellow who showed up doesn’t even have a VKC Dog yet, but he participated as whole-heartedly as anyone. Not a bad crowd for a midday gathering in the middle of the week, I’d say.

At the whisper of a command from their creator, all the VKC dogs, bears, hyenas, and penguins turned, sat, and smiled for the camera.
Even Enrico Genosse, the very creator of the VKC Dogs, showed up! All around him calls rang out, “Heya, Rico!” “Hi, Enrico!” “Hallo Mr. Genosse!” as cameras clicked away. With no fanfare whatsoever, Rico rezzed a dog that was unlike any dog there. It was none other than the VKC Golden Retriever! Now before you yawn and murmur, “oh?” I must remind you that this event took place nearly a week before the dog was released. Yes, I realize that this makes my post old news, but the excitement at the time was palpable.
Props to Saffra Nitely for coming up with the idea and for hosting the event at her island. This is the sort of thing that makes the Virtual Kennel Club so great!
The VKC Golden Retriever arrived at Canis Beach Dog Park and Canis Park at Raglan Shire yesterday to cheers and acclaim. LilWitch Allen, our faithful VKC Proven Trainer who can be found at CBDP more often that not, was so excited, we thought she might pop.
“LilWitch has been bouncing around excitedly since no one knows when this morning,” Enrico Genosse, the creator of the VKC Dogs, added to the announcement he sent out just before the noon release time yesterday.
The Golden Retriever is well worth all Lil’s enthusiasm and more. People who attended the release were blown away by how naturally he moves. Nearly everyone who saw him commented, “He has such realistic movements.”
“Oh! Just look at his face,” said another. “Doesn’t he look like a big lovable puppy?” “Wait! He blinks!!!”
“I think he has the cutest toes,” laughed the little girl as the Golden Retriever rolled over onto his back for her.
“Watch how he turns to look at you when you pet him,” chuckled LilWitch. “I love everything about him.”
“What’re you all naming them?” asked Erie Runningbear in the group chat for the Virtual Kennel Club. People immediately responded with a chorus of names. Charlene! HoneyLamb! Shenandoah! Bryon! Nugget! Eowyn! (the golden-haired and lovely noblewoman of Rohan from The Lord of the Rings) and several dozen more names rang out.
